Requirement to complete a Financial Management Course
After filing bankruptcy and before a discharge is issued, each individual chapter 7 and 13 debtors, including both spouses in a joint case, must complete a course in financial management. A certificate must be filed with the court within 60 days after the first date set for the meeting of creditors. When spouses file a joint bankruptcy case, both spouses must take the class and obtain their own separate Certificates of Completion. Completion of the course is a condition for the debtor to obtain a Discharge.
