Welcome to the Debtors section of the Court’s website. Here you will find information pertinent to you and your business with the Court.

You are a Debtor if you…

  • are a person or organization that has borrowed money from another party
  • cannot repay the money owed by the time it is due
  • have filed for bankruptcy with the assistance of a lawyer

Bankruptcy is a complicated process with long term financial and legal consequences. Hiring a competent lawyer is strongly recommended. If you cannot hire a lawyer, please visit our Don’t Have a Lawyer page for more information to guide you through the process.

Note: A corporation must be represented by a lawyer, except in certain limited instances (see Local Rule 9010-1(B) – Notice of Appearance). Please refer to the For Creditors page for more information.

Payment Options

Electronically filed documents: the fee must be paid through pay.gov with a credit card or by ACH transaction.

Over the counter filed documents: the filing commencing a bankruptcy case shall be paid in:

  • Money Order
  • Cashier's Check (personal checks are NOT accepted)
  • Exact Cash Amount (change will not be provided)

Make your Money Order or Cashier’s check payable to “Clerk, U.S. Court.” Payment by personal check or credit card is not accepted.

Privacy Protection Policy Federal Rule of Bankruptcy Procedure 9037 applies to all documents filed with the court. This policy requires parties in bankruptcy cases to modify or partially redact personal data identifiers contained in documents.
