Here are some opinions search examples.
As you can see the default request form selects all the opinions for all the Judges. This is the broadest search possible. It will list all the opinions available.
The output is sorted by Case Name, the opinions are listed with the Judge, CaseNumber, Case Name, Key Phrase, and Rule (if applicable). As you can see there is an entry for each Case + Key Phrase + Rule. By clicking the opinion hyperlink under the Case number the opinion PDF file will display. If a summary file for that opinion exist, there will be a summary hyperlink under the Judge initials, clicking the hyperlink will display the summary PDF file.
You can narrow down the list of opinions by filling in as additonal field(s) of information. You can select a particular Judge by clicking on the down arrow on the right side of the judge field. This will result in an opinions list for the selected judge only.
You can enter the case year. Let's say I only want to see the opinions for cases filed in 1999; by entering 99 in the first box of the Case Number field, you will only see listed the opinions for 1999 cases. If you select a judge in conjunction with the Case Number, you will only see listed the opinions for the selected judge for the selected Case year.
You can select a Key Phrase. Let's say I only want to see the opinions having the Key Phrase STANDING; by clicking on the down arrow on the right side of the Key Phrase field, you will only see listed the opinions for cases with the selected Key Phrase. If you select a Key Phrase in conjunction with the Case Number, you will only see listed the opinions for the selected Key Phrase for the selected Case Number (year). If you also select a judge, the list of opinions will list those opinions that contain the selected Key Phrase, Case Number , for that Judge.
The same applies to the remaining field.
You may fill in as many fields as possible in any combination, to narrow down the list that matches the selection.
